The linguistic relationship between Ostara and Easter is obvious to anyone, although the original celebration took place at the vernal equinox and was not subject to the complicated mathematical formula imposed upon it by the Christian religion – necessary, of course, to maintain the relationship with the Jewish Passover.
Sometimes called Lady Day, this is the day when the Goddess (now a maiden again, although She was a crone at Samhain and a mother at Yule and Imbolc) becomes attractive to the stripling God. They play together and their play, although innocent, foreshadows their coming love.
Agriculturally, it was the time of the spring planting. The weather grows warmer, and flowers are abundant. Games are played with hidden eggs, and the outdoors is enjoyed fully by all.
