Warm weather is ending, and the harvest is winding up. This is the autumnal equinox, when day and night are again of exactly the same length. The spirit of our dead God wanders the earth, pining for his lost love. The Goddess becomes a crone as She grieves for Her dead love.Frost begins to nip the air.
One of the most interesting myths about Witches comes from a traditional practice on this date. Witches take brooms into the fields and sweep them over the stubble to hurry the God’s spirit into the Underworld. People observing this from a distance thought that it looked like the Witches were riding on the brooms and perhaps trying to fly.
All the world holds its breath as the end of the year – Samhain – approaches yet again.
